Parent Guide



Welcome to Collins Elementary Library Media Center. The students utilize this facility and its materials for their educational requirements. We hope that this will serve as a guide for you, as well as your child to be familiar with our facility, procedures and staff.

Library Instruction

The librarian meets with each class on a regular basis to teach library skills and literature enrichment.

Students are welcome to use the library resources between 7:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.  Monday through Friday during the school year.

The Collection

The library house books and audio-visual materials including audio and video cassettes, maps, globes, computer software, laser disks, and CD Rom programs.  Collins also receives The Daily Sentinel newspaper.

Circulation

Our policy allows each student to check out books only.  Books are circulated for two weeks and may be renewed by the student on or before the date due.  

Reference materials are circulated only if they are needed for special reports or projects.  The student is allowed to borrow one source per evening.  The book must be returned to the library by 8:00 a.m. the following morning.  Our complete reference collection must be available for classes to utilize during the school day.


Overdue Materials

Overdue fines are charged which are five (5) cents per day and students are required to pay for lost or damaged materials.  The parent will be refunded if the lost book is returned in good condition.
